Básculas Salter

Salters Scales has been for many years the leading brand of household scales in the United Kingdom, currently with a market share of 40%, and has become the leading brand in many other countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong , Malaysia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Chile and Portugal.

Salter's story began in the late 1760s in the town of Bilston, England, when Richard Salter, a manufacturer of springs, began to manufacture a type of scales similar to those now used by fishermen.

In 1825 his nephew George took over the company, which was renamed George Salter & Co. and later established a large and well-equipped manufacturing center in the city of West Bromwich. From here, the company produced a wide variety of scales including the first bathroom scale in the United Kingdom.

The business continued to prosper and in 1950 it employed more than 2,000 people, even in the same area and owned by the same family. Then, in 1972 the company was acquired by Staveley Industries Plc.

In March 2004 the company was sold to US-based HoMedics , the leaders of "personal well-being." In 2006, Salter and Taylor Precision Products Inc (also owned by HoMedics) merged to be more reactive to the changing retail environment.

With a distribution in more than 100 countries around the world, Salter remains the # 1 brand of bathroom scales in the UK and is now part of the HoMedics group.
