Brooks England

In the last a century and a half, Brooks England have gone from being a small workshop to a synonym of craftsmanship. In 1865, John Boultbee Brooks left his hometown of Hinckley in Leicestershire with only 20 pounds in his pocket. He went to Birmingham, where in 1866 he founded a company of harnesses for horses and general leather goods in Great Charles Street under the name of JB Brooks & Co. In 1878, the unfortunate death of Mr. Brooks’ horse lead to him borrowing a bicycle to get to work. He found the saddle so uncomfortable that he promised to do something about it.

On October 28, 1882, Mr. Brooks presented his first bike saddle patent. Cyclists recognised the improvements it featured and the new product was a resounding success.

In 1962 Brooks England became part of Raleigh and moved to its current facilities in Smethwick in the West Midlands, a few miles away from the original facilities. Inspired by the timeless products designed by their predecessors, Brooks England have revived the original slogan “Saddles, Bags, etc” introducing a series of bicycle bags and other cycling accessories. Brooks England is full of history, a prestigious brand that has almost 150 years of tradition and experience. But the quality and style will never age.

Very Comfy, Quality Saddle.
I tried a lot of saddles before buying this saddle. I could not find a saddle that was comfortable for rides for more than 20 miles (32k). A friend suggested using a Brooks saddle. I had previously thought them as hard. I found it very comfortable from the start and as it moulded to me over time it just got better. If you like real quality and workmanship in a product the saddle will delight you. Most important it’s so comfy I don’t worry about cycling any distance.

Brooks England Cambium Carved Saddle C13 Black
Great Saddle from the Brooks Stable.
Very comfortable out of the box. Well made and waterproof and very light for a Brooks. Can't compete on weight with some competitors but quality and comfort make up for this. A bit on the expensive side but quality costs.

Brooks England Slender leather cuffs 100-130 mm dark brown
can't re-wrap the leather strip
The leather wrap came undone after 2 years of heavy use, and I was not able to wrap it back on. My bike mechanic wasn't able either. Other than that, they look and feel great. I bought them again, after all.
