The CeramicSpeed bottom bracket is also rigid and lightweight, but its major benefits are reduced drag. Standard bearings with standard grease usually have a friction drag of 0.3-0.4 watts per set. That is in the range of a 75% reduction in drag compared to normal bottom brackets. The bearings last at least 3 times longer than other bearings.
CeramicSpeed coated products offer the ultimate in performance and longevity gains. The patented coating features several attributes that enhance the longevity of CeramicSpeed bearings. The increased hardness of the strokes, combined with the smoothness of the ceramic speed balls, produces virtually no wear on the bearing. The coating is a metallic layer, which is 75% harder than hardened steel tracks. The coating is applied in a very thin and uniform layer of 3 microns (0.003 mm) over the entire surface of the bearing track. Both the interior and exterior are treated to achieve optimal results.
