Change Shimano XTR Di2 11v Shadow + GS Direct
The other fundamental element to achieve greater efficiency is that the change of crowns or plate does not depend on the strength of our finger or the tension of the cable. The change and the diverter are pushed by an electric motor. With a redesign that incorporates, among other things, Shadow RD + technology that improves the functioning of the change exponentially.
The Shimano XTR Di2 is programmable, that is, it works on Shimano's E-Tube platform, so we can connect our group to a computer and with specific software perform all kinds of configurations. Something very important and that users have already experienced the electronic road change is that E-Tube usually has regular updates. This can be used to solve possible system problems but above all to include new functionalities and configuration possibilities as the system evolves and Shimano picks up opinions and suggestions from users.
Of course, we can be aware of the configuration of the XTR Di2 group during our route or race thanks to the control screen that is installed on the handlebar. In this screen we can visualize at any moment the relation of change with which you are pedaling or the battery level. This is one of the most amazing features of the Shimano XTR Di2. Thanks to the E-Tube technology and the Firebolt pushbuttons you can save yourself a change lever, leaving it disabled or remove it and leave it at home directly. If the Syncro Shift is activated the front derailleur automatically detects the position of the rear derailleur and makes the plate change if necessary. You can do it when it's most convenient for you thanks to its preconfigurations, the fruit of its thousands of kilometers of tests. In any case, as each biker is a world you may prefer to make a customized configuration: you just have to connect to your computer. Of course, at any time of your route or race you can return to manual mode (unless you left the handle at home).
Shimano XTR Di2 solves some of the problems that usually involve a mechanical group. For example, conventional cables disappear. This supposes a greater precision but also that we will not have to worry about tensions, maintenance, adjustments or meteorology.
Another thing that we can worry about is the autonomy of the battery. The XTR Di2 uses the same batteries as the Di2 road groups. The battery can be external (SM-BTR1) or internal (SM-BTR2). The external one is usually fixed to the drum holder and the internal one can be included in the seatpost or any other hollow piece that can be fitted (depending on the manufacturer of the bike or the seatpost we use). The autonomy of the battery will vary depending on the intensity.
The new Shimano XTR Di2 only weighs a little more than the mechanical version. For example, if we configure the Di2 with two plates and eliminate one of the levers, the weight would be the same as the mechanical one. The components of the Di2 weigh more in total but we saved the weight of the steel cables.
