The Shimano front gear system is based on the HyperDrive concept. The derailleur, the HG chain and the SG-X plates work together to achieve a more reliable, more precise and faster front change action.
Without HyperDrive, problems can frequently occur when changing the medium to large plate, especially under high loads. The Shimano Hyper Drive system avoids that problem. The front teeth, the pins of the SG-X plates, the super rigid wide link diverter and the spatial profiles of the links of the HyperGlide chain have been designed so that they interact perfectly to achieve a smooth and trouble-free change. The plates have exceptional torsional rigidity and the teeth have contoured profiles to ensure that the chain engages smoothly with the plates to raise or lower the gears.
