The main fuel for prolonged and intense resistance exercises are carbohydrates and therefore the amount of carbohydrates that is stored in the body is one of the main determinants of performance. As such, it is important that carbohydrate reserves be maximized before endurance exercise and that during prolonged exercise where these reserves will be depleted, the additional carbohydrate will be consumed to maintain performance and avoid fatigue. Carbohydrate consumption will help maintain blood glucose and replenish muscle glycogen. If carbohydrates are not consumed, muscle glycogen will be depleted after approx. 90 minutes of exercise and severe fatigue will appear. The amount of carbohydrates you should take during exercise will depend on the duration of your training or competition.
Exercises <1h: it is not necessary to consume carbohydrates during exercise.
Exercises 1-2h: 30 g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise (1 energy gel)
Exercises 2-3h: 60 g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise (2 energy gels)
Exercises> 2.5-3h: up to 90g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise (up to 3 energy gels)
The Etixx Isotonic Energy Gel is a unique blend of sugar that consists of high-speed sugars (glucose and maltose), semi-slow sugars (sucrose) and slow sugars (complex sugars). This is what "Triple Action Effect" means (three-phase sugars) that provide a fast energy and at the same time provide a sustained energy, in a long period of time (see figure). In addition, glucose and fructose use different transport systems when they are absorbed into the body. This means that in total more carbohydrates can enter the blood stream simultaneously when glucose and fructose are consumed together compared to when only one of the two sugars is consumed. The energetic gel is a high concentrate in the form of sugar, which means large amounts of fuel. To get the same amount of carbohydrates in an energy drink you would have to drink large amounts of fluid that would increase the likelihood of gastrointestinal distress / discomfort. It also does not contain added nutrients such as protein or fat that can slow stomach emptying (digestion). The Etixx Isotonic Energy Gel is ideal for endurance sports and also strength exercise in hot climates and for athletes with high sweat rates. It also contains electrolytes and citrates. Electrolytes (sodium and potassium) are added to replace those lost through sweating. Sodium intake also helps ensure that moisture retains better in the body and stimulates thirst. This gel is isotonic (6.9% carbohydrates per 100 ml) when dissolved in 350 ml of water and this leads to an optimal absorption of liquids, carbohydrates and minerals. This gel can be consumed with or without water and is therefore ideal to take with you in training sessions when it can be difficult to take the necessary supplies.
