Le Coq Sportif is a French brand founded in 1882 by Émile Camuse that is dedicated to the production of sportswear. The name derives from the Gallic rooster, unofficial national symbol of France. It is currently a multinational company with headquarters in Entzheim, Alsace (France) and which is present in 11 countries. Le Coq Sportif returned to the Tour de France in 2012 after 24 years of absence to sponsor the yellow jersey and the rest of the winner jerseys (the green jersey for points classification leader, the white jersey for best young rider classification and the polka-dot jersey for king of the mountains classification leader), taking advantage of the 130th anniversary of the brand, to resume their role as the official manufacturers of the famous winner jerseys of the most important cycling event in the world. For Le Coq Sportif, their return to the great French cycling race means a return to their origins. Since 1951, Le Coq Sportif’s factories received the prestigious commission to make the Tour de France team jerseys. For over 40 years, this clothing was worn by the most famous world cycling legends in their victories, from Jacques Anquetil to Bernard Hinault through Eddy Mercks, Federico Martín Bahamontes, Luis Ocaña or Perico Delgado. The Spanish cyclist Pedro Delgado was the last Tour de France champion who wore the yellow jersey created by Le Coq Sportif and highlighted some characteristics of the new jerseys, such as its defined lines, retro inspiration that recalls the 1951 designs and the use of a highly technical polyester and elastane. This mixture of micro-aerated and ultra-light materials provides excellent breathability and a reduction in the weight of the jersey by 14 percent. The partnership between Le Coq Sportif and Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) goes beyond the Tour de France and concerns all cycling events organised by ASO. Among them, there is the Vuelta Ciclista a España as well as other prestigious races such as Paris-Roubaix, the Paris-Nice stage and the Critérium de la Dauphiné. More than a collaboration, this agreement is a sincere and passionate decision, evidence that confirms the commitment that has historically kept Le Coq Sportif with cycling.
