Look Kéo Blade Carbon Ceramic Tour de France pedals with a design that fully integrates the blade for unparalleled aerodynamics. Equipped with a carbon body and blade, the Blade Carbon features a CroMoly + axle for reduced weight of 110g per pedal. The new Blade Carbon's spindle system has been completely redesigned. It is built around an oversized axle and spindle that passes through internal needle and roller bearings located directly under pedal platform. This new construction saves approximately 2 watts at 100 rpm. The distance between the roller bearing and needle bearings has been increased by 25%. This provides more rigidity along the length of the spindle and, therefore improves power transmission. Special attention has also been given to their water resistance. This has been improved by 120% for more reliability and longevity. To accomplish this, the new spindle received an updated endplug with an o-ring washer. On the inside, it has been equipped with a double-lipped seal.

Look axles are only approved after a rotational test of 2 million cycles at 100 rpm with a load of 90kg on the centre of the pedal and an eccentric rotation (which creates shock on each revolution). This test is much more demanding than the current standard, the EN14781.

Every component, every ball is meticulously selected to ensure the highest level of quality and performance. The balls are precisely calibrated one by one by a machine, down to every micron. They are then arranged in accordance with their size in perfectly matched rings, with the result that each bearing has a completely unique structure. A long use life is the main advantage of ceramic bearings. Rounder and harder than traditional balls, they are less sensitive to dust or deposits and ensure consistent, long-lasting performance. In addition, the ceramic is not subject to corrosion. These physical properties guarantee that the ball bearings have a service life 4 to 6 times longer than standard steel ball bearings. Reduced friction is the best known and most characteristic advantage of ceramic bearings. The perfectly circular shape and hardness of the balls combined with optimised greases specific to ceramics allow a 18% reduction in the friction forces applied to the bearing.

In response to requests from the most demanding cyclists, especially competitors, the pedal-cleat system must allow an efficient power transfer thanks to a wider and more rigid pedal platform. The Blade Carbon's platform is equipped with a 67 mm wide stainless steel blade. This optimises the cleat/pedal contact areas, regardless of the pedal angle. With a surface area of 700mm2 the Carbon Blade offers an optimised contact platform for power transfer that is incomparable on the market. The weight/power ratio positions these pedals well above their competitors. Using a carbon body lightens the weight of the pedal and provides an additional gain in stiffness for improved power transfer. Blade technology is an important technical innovation in the history of automatic pedals, since it offers a numerous benefits: lightweight, aerodynamic, ultra-secure clip in and clip out.
