The Merida Big Nine 500 MTB was built by the Merida staff. The frame and fork are made of aluminium, which makes them lightweight. Thanks to the Shimano Deore M6100 1x12-speed drivetrain and the 29" Merida Comp CC wheels for disc brakes, the bike provides excellent performance during sport. The Manitou Markhor Comp fork offers safety and control so you can enjoy your mountain rides to the fullest. The geometry is designed to suit both male and female morphology. It combines a sophisticated structure in the tubes that adds efficiency, as well as a plus of aerodynamics thanks to the profiles that adapt.

The Merida Big Nine 500 MTB has a more relaxed geometry that is much more comfortable and allows you to ride longer and improve control and stability. If you also want to use it as an everyday bike, you can take advantage of the possibility of mounting mudguards and pannier racks. Tapered steerers have been exclusive to racing bikes until recently. The idea behind this concept is to increase the stiffness of the steering, which is one of the most critical points in the performance of a bike without penalizing the overall weight of the bike. Thanks to the larger diameter of the lower bearing, compared to the upper bearing, the shape of the steering becomes cone-shaped, which considerably increases the stiffness at this point. The Big nine frame makes use of internal cable routing to improve the aesthetics of the bike and reduce maintenance, as the cables are less subject to wear as they are routed inside the frame. The only one they have kept on the outside of the frame has been the rear brake, thinking that doing the maintenance and bleeding of the brake is a more expensive task if the cover goes on the inside.

The frame in particular has been designed with much flatter tubes to give the bike a modern, light and very sporty look. The rear brake caliper is mounted on the chainstays and not on the tie rods. The chainstays are much stiffer and stronger so they withstand the forces generated when braking much better. The result is better, more consistent braking and a much more reliable frame. In addition, the brake is on the inside of the frame, protected against falls or objects that may be thrown against the bike while riding on roads and trails. Merida has been working with its Smooth Welding technology for a few years now. This welding process makes the joints between the tubes unnoticeable to the naked eye, improving the aesthetics of the bike while reducing weight and improving the reliability of each weld.
