The POC Octal X MIPS helmet is an evolution of the award-winning Octal, adapting it to the needs of Gravel and Cyclocross riders. With an enlarged shell covering more of the helmet liner, it benefits from improved strength properties at a much reduced weight. Features shared with the Octal include extreme ventilation, aerodynamic efficiency, a unibody shell construction and EPS liner, as well as POC's aramid bridge technology for additional strength and penetration protection. All of these features are inherited from POC's focus on designing and building full-face helmets to offer superior levels of comfort, fit and performance. The inclusion of the MIPS system improves the level of protection in case of rotational impacts. RECCO technology enables rescue services to locate you effectively in the event of an accident.

- MIPS:
MIPS is the leading helmet slip plane technology, designed to reduce rotational impact of certain knocks. When the head rotates rapidly and comes to a sudden stop, the rotational acceleration can cause high levels of stress in the brain tissue. The tissue strain caused by these movements can result in various types of brain injuries. We believe that helmets equipped with MIPS technology bring the highest level of protection against certain types of impacts. MIPS uses a slip plane technology that moves inside the helmet, mimicking the same protection system that the brain uses. This layer is designed to rotate inside the helmet with the aim of potentially slowing or reducing the amount of energy transferred to or from the head. Science shows that if we can reduce the stress associated with rotational acceleration, we can reduce the risk and severity of brain damage.

- RECCO
RECCO is a rescue system that allows you to be located in case of avalanche or loss in mountain expeditions at high altitudes. It uses a system based on reflectors that make it possible for you to be located by a team of professionals thanks to a radar. The reflector consists of a small electronic piece that weighs less than four grams with a thin copper antenna and a diode that echoes and doubles the signals sent out by detectors. It is covered by an external protective rubber layer that gives it its recognisable capsule shape. It is practically indestructible. The reflector does not send out signals, meaning it does not require energy source.
