Bicycle pumps push air into the inner tubes of the bike’s tyres, in order to increase the pressure inside and allow the wheels to spin better.

There are different types of pumps:

- Floor pumps are larger and can be used to inflate your bike’s tyres before leaving home. These pumps usually have a pressure gauge that indicates the tyre pressure to help you achieve the most appropriate pressure and leaving your tyres in top condition before going out on the road or mountains. Bear in mind that not all bike wheels require the same pressure.

- Hand pumps are smaller and can be carried with you on cycles or trips, along with the rest of your bicycle tools. If you have to change your inner tube in the middle of the mountain or repair a puncture, it is always good to have a small pump on hand to be able to ride on.

Before buying a pump you should know which type of valve the tyre has. If you have a mountain bike and a road bike you will have to buy a pump with both options.
