The Salewa X-Alps Alpha jacket with its Polartec insulation offers active insulation for training in the mountains. Developed in conjunction with athletes who regularly train in the Alps to provide active insulation during activities such as mountain training, fast hiking and other high octane sports, the X-Alps Alph jacket has been designed with Salewa's body mapping system, using specific materials for different parts of the body to provide the performance required in each area. The result is a hybrid jacket, with 40g Polartec Alpha insulation in the shoulders and chest. Dual component, 2-way stretch, highly breathable Polartec Power Dry inserts have been used on the back and side panels, under the arms (for maximum moisture management) and on the arms and neck for total freedom of movement and maximum comfort.

Polartec Power Stretch fabrics stretch in 4 directions and are highly breathable. They keep you dry during intense physical activity. How does this technology work? Sweat and a relatively high level of moisture near the skin cause discomfort. Polartec Power Stretch keeps the skin dry through three complementary mechanisms: the fabric is highly breathable and does not impede the movement of wet steam. A series of Touch Points on the inner surface of the fabric remove sweat. Sweat is drawn away from the skin to the outer surface of the fabric, where it spreads quickly and evaporates. When sweat reaches the outer surface of the fabric, it spreads to occupy several times its original surface, allowing the fabric to dry twice as fast as cotton.
