Saucony was founded in 1898, two years after the first Olympic marathon, in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. During the first part of the XX century athletics became popular but athletes did not have high performance running shoes , so Saucony set out to create a shoe to change the way people run. In 1968 Hyde Athletic Industries bought Saucony and moved it to Cambridge. In 1972, Frank Shorter won the Olympic gold medal which sparked interest in running in the United States and in 1977 the Saucony running shoes were awarded prizes. Quickly, the Saucony shoes went from being the secret weapon of professional athletes to reaching amateur athletes.

Saucony's DNA is 100% running, as it is one of the few brands that only develop and manufacture running shoes . This focus on running has made it the pioneer brand and introducer of important innovations that have revolutionised running shoes .
