Selle SMP Urban

In the streets two champions like Coppi and Bartali are challenged. In an attic in the historic centre of Padua, Martino Schiavon, began the completely Italian Selle SMP story, a story full of tenacity, initiative, courage and a desire to succeed focusing on the strength of their ideas.

In 1981, production was moved to the current headquarters in Casalserugo, 10 km from Padua. In 1995 annual production reached 5 million saddles and in the same year the internal research and development laboratory was constructed.

The Schiavon family, convinced that local production should not be deprived of the experiences and skills gained through years of work and sacrifice, decided to keep production and employment in Veneto, to compete on the Made in Italy innovation and quality level. It was not until 2000 that they became the first company in the sector to work with the certified quality system.

As a result of long and extensive anthropometric and ergonomic studies carried out in collaboration with a medical team, four international patents were presented: the central channel, the tip in the form of an eagle';s beak, the box and the posterior concavity. It was from these patents that the Pro was born, the first model of a series destined to become a symbol of a different and absolutely innovative concept of bicycle saddle. Today Selle SMP are the world leader in the field of ergonomic saddles and sell their products in more than 50 countries.

More than 65 years have passed, but all their saddles continue to be completely manufactured in Veneto. SMP is the only company in the world that has an ISO9001 certified Quality System for: Design and manufacture of bicycle saddles totally manufactured in Italy.
