Do you want to know more about sleeping bags and mats?

Sleeping bags and mats are an essential oudoor accessory for trips to the mountains or evenings at the campsite.

When choosing a sleeping bag, you must bear in mind what it will be used for. On one hand, it is not the same to use a sleeping bag to go camping as to spend the night in the middle or on top of the mountains. On the other hand, you also have to ensure the bag is suitable for the season in which you will be using it.

For mountaineering and trekking, lightweight sleeping bags are a must, in order to provide greater comfort and resistance. The minimum temperature of the sleeping bag is also an important factor to consider, although it can vary depending on the metabolism of the person who uses it and its resistance to cold. Factors such as the physical condition of the person, the external climatic conditions, the protection of the wind and the isolation of the ground will be taken into account when choosing the sleeping bag.

For the summer, it is recommended to use bags whose comfort temperature approaches 0ºC, since at night the climatic conditions can be cold and humid. For an intermediate use in the mountain, it is convenient to choose models whose comfort temperature reaches -10ºC and with a good construction (thermal collar, protection bands on the zippers, etc.). Winter sleeping bags will require a comfort temperature of -20ºC, as well as an excellent construction and light and very insulating materials.

As for the filling, some sleeping bags use down and others synthetic fibres. Sleeping bags with feather filling are very light and take up little space, although they can be less effective under high humidity conditions. Synthetic fibres, on the other hand, offer excellent insulation in wet conditions, but are a bit heavier and bulkier. For bulkier sleeping bags, a stuff sacks can be purchased to reduce their volume.

Blow-up mats aim to improve the levels of comfort, rest and thermal insulation during camping. There are highly compressible collapsible models that facilitate transport and storage. Most include easy inflation and deflation systems, and even self-inflation.

Roll mats offer insulation, while protecting from the hardness and coldness of the floor.
