The Smith Summit MIPS helmet is designed for ski mountaineering. Its triple-certified design complies with worldwide ski certifications and international mountaineering standards. The design combines a minimalist approach with mountaineering specific details to keep it ultra-light yet ready for alpine activities. Zonal Koroyd impact protection and MIPS absorb energy in the event of a fall. Smith's BOA 360 custom fit system offers a micrometric fit that also folds into the helmet for easy backpacking. The external elastic loops also offer a secure attachment to the outside of the backpack. Integrated headlamp straps keep the light in place, and the cap and beanie compatible design allows you to adapt to the weather. 33 fixed vents keep the air moving and your mask from fogging up.

• MIPS system

MIPS leads in the market for slip plane technology in the helmet’s interior which is designed to reduce any rotational impact from certain knocks. When the head rotates rapidly and comes to a sudden stop, the rotational acceleration can cause high levels of stress in the brain tissue. The tissue strain caused by these movements can result in various types of brain injuries. We believe that helmets equipped with MIPS technology can add the highest level of protection against certain types of impacts. MIPS uses a slip plane technology that moves inside the helmet, mimicking the same protection system that the brain uses. This layer is designed to rotate inside the helmet with the aim of potentially slowing or reducing the amount of energy transferred to or from the head. Science shows that if we can reduce the stress associated with rotational acceleration, we can reduce the risk and severity of brain damage.

Smith's patented Koroyd system provides superior shock absorption, design flexibility and ventilation over traditional materials used in helmet construction. By using crumple zone cylinders that flatten evenly on impact, Koroyd manages energy more efficiently with less volume.
