The SRAM brand was founded in Chicago in 1987. In the beginning it had only six employees and the only component they manufactured was the Gripshift Twist Shifter handle. Currently the company is made up of 1500 workers, they manufacture more than 150 products for cycling and they have 12 plants distributed all over the world. SRAM has grown spectacularly thanks to their innovative products, their great customer service and their strong sales. They have also made important acquisitions such as the company Sachs Bicycle Components, in 1997, which is a world leader in the manufacture of chains, cassettes and bushings. In 2002, SRAM purchased RockShox, the largest specialist in MTB shock absorbers. And in 2004 they acquired Avid and Truvativ, companies dedicated to the manufacture of brakes, rods and components. The sum of all this process has allowed SRAM to become the second supplier of cycling components in the world. The main objective of the company is to improve cycling and this commitment is expressed through their local, national and international teams, as well as their sponsorship of events around the world.
