Running is a form of exercise that involves the whole body and is practiced on road or on forest tracks. It is executed as a sequence of alternating steps of the two legs, being able to divide each stride in three phases: support, impulse and recovery. The support and the impulse is done with the foot in contact with the ground while the recovery is done with the foot in the air.
The most recommendable option is to run on forest tracks, since this type of surface absorbs the impact much better. But on the other hand we must be very aware of where we support the foot because the surfaces are irregular and there may be stones or roots that cause a twist or a stumble.
As for running on asphalt, this surface is recommended for expert runners and for trainings in which speed prevails. In case of being prone to injury, it is not recommended to do long or very repetitive sessions on asphalt.
In any case, not all of us have the possibility of running on forest roads or tracks and, in addition, most tests are still done on asphalt although the number of mountain races is clearly increasing.
The specific running shoes for running on a forest track or road usually offer less cushioning than asphalt because it is not so necessary when used on a soft surface. The outsole is also characteristic of these shoes to provide maximum traction on gravel roads, mud, etc ...
To run on the asphalt we recommend a suitable shoe that provides optimal cushioning. Depending on the weight of the athlete and the distance of the exits, we must choose a shoe with more or less cushioning.
The running shoes are the essential equipment for running, but it is also advisable to use specific t-shirts, pants or socks for this sport.
Running tops and running legwear should provide maximum ventilation and be made with sweat-wicking fabrics that facilitate perspiration in order to stay cool and dry. Running jerseys usually have flat or ergonomic seams, round mesh or zipper necks and sleeves or back bands. The running pants usually have a drawstring elastic waist for a perfect fit, underwear with inner or outer pocket and some reflective element to help increase visibility in the dark.
The running socks are also made with fabrics that facilitate transpiration and usually have different densities to drain moisture outwards. They have a specific design for the right foot and for the left foot, with reinforced and protected areas.
Running glasses are an accessory increasingly used by athletes. The running glasses are very light and hardly notice once put. Polycarbonate lenses cover a large area to further protect the eyes.
